Some about flamenco dance…

The emotional intensity of flamenco dance develops certain personal and psychological qualities that help people achieve success in life, self-confidence and independence, and experience many different emotional and body stories. Everyone finds something in it that strengthens existing or forms new personality traits if they are weakly expressed. For example, an open look, a straight back, strong stretching, strengthen a person's sense of self-esteem, increase self-esteem, and form the image of a successful person's body.

"I like the harmonious combination of feminine and masculine principles in flamenco dance. This dance allows a woman to develop her feminine qualities, as well as to be more self-confident, to achieve success, to be independent and purposeful. This dance requires effort to master the movements and character. Flamenco gives you the freedom to be yourself, not to be afraid of yourself, to show different sides of your personality" - explains Jelena Dementjeva.

Benefits of flamenco dance:

  • flamenco dance helps shape body image;

  • increases the dancer's self-esteem, forms a positive self-image;

  • reduces muscle and nerve tension, increases vitality (vital energy);

  • improves the quality of life, forms a creative approach to solving personal and life problems;

  • teaches to understand one's limits and personal territory, human communication with oneself, with a partner (in pairs dance forms) and with the world (in group dance forms);

  • flamenco dance solves the main therapeutic task - harmonizing thoughts, feelings and sensations with the help of conscious movement and dance.

Evolution of flamenco

During the formation of flamenco art, flamenco singing (sp. - cante) appeared first, followed by dancing (sp. - baile) and, in the third stage, playing the guitar and other musical (percussive) accompaniment (sp. - toque). Therefore, the classification of flamenco dance styles (sp. - palos) is inseparable from song styles and their grouping.

Flamenco styles can be divided into seven groups:

  1. Primitive songs: romances, tonás, saetas, temporeras, la caña.

  2. Main songs (branches): siguiriyas, soleares, tangos, cantiñas.

  3. Fandangos (its number of variations is huge): fandangos de Huelva, original fandangos.

  4. Songs born from fandango: cantes de Málaga, granaína y media granaína, cantes de Levante.

  5. "Flamencized" songs based on spanish folklore: bamberas, sevillanas, campanilleros, villancicos, nanas, zambras, peteneras.

  6. Songs "de ida y vuelta" (when spanish colonizers traveled to America and returned with elements of Latin American culture): rumba, guajira, colombiana, milonga, vidalita.

  7. Stylized songs ("fusiones flamencas"): flamenco-rock, flamenco-pop, flamenco-jazz, flamenco-blues, stylized with classical music, Indian, Arabic music, flamenco-latin.

As for flamenco puro (pure, unstylized flamenco styles), styles such as tangos, alegrias, bulerias, solea, farruca, guajira and others are mostly danced in practice. Flamenco dancers express their emotions and feelings not only through musical language, but also through physical expression. Each flamenco dance style has its own color and shows different emotions: tangos - passion; alegrias - happiness; bulerias - seduction; solea - solitude; farruca - elegance; guajira - sensuality.

Expressing emotions is a central part of flamenco performance!
